Acupuncture, Fertility & Infertility

We have a wealth of experience treating patients trying to conceive, both naturally and with assisted conception techniques.

Not only is Beverley Law a highly qualified member of the relevant professional body (British Acupuncture Council) she is also a Zita West affiliated practitioner, who has a special interest pre-conception care, infertility and pregnancy.

Beverley also works as an IVF Co-ordinator for CARE Fertility, enabling her to work closely with specialist fertility Consultants, Nurses, & Embryologists which further enhances knowledge of fertility, infertility and the treatments available.

Treatments are based, wherever possible, on latest research, helping to increase your chances of achieving a pregnancy naturally or via IVF/ICSI as well as supporting you during pregnancy. If you are undergoing assisted conception techniques a treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you that complement and enhances this.

Acupuncture aiding fertility

Helping You Achieve Your Dreams

The British Acupuncture Council suggests that research has established plausible mechanisms to explain how acupuncture may boost fertility. These include regulating fertility hormones, reducing stress, increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and counteracting the effects of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

Maximum Results

Several studies have looked at the benefits of combining acupuncture and IVF - for example a study in 2002 (Paulus) suggested that acupuncture could significantly increase the clinical pregnancy rate.

A study published in the British Medical Journal in 2008 (Manheimer) concluded that there was evidence of benefit.

In 2016 a study by Homerton University Hospital, London involved 160 women - half were assigned acupuncture during their IVF cycle - 12 months on the success rate among these women was 46.2%. In those women who did not have acupuncture is was 21.7%.

Minimal Side Effects

According to Zita West, treatment has shown to be effective in :

  • Regulating the menstrual cycle
  • Reducing stress
  • Increasing blood circulation to the uterus (ensuring optimal endometrial thickness)
  • Helping to trigger ovulation in some women with ovulatory dysfunction
  • Improving sperm count, motility and structural abnormalities

Feedback suggests that having acupuncture helps patients to feel proactive, relaxed and supported. Talking to me before your treatment cycle commences will enable us to agree an individual care plan.
